Requisitos

  • Must be a national of, and working and living in one of the countries on the NFP country list;

  • Have an employer’s statement that complies with the format EP-Nuffic has provided. All information must be provided and all commitments that are included in the format must be endorsed in the statement;

  • Must not be employed by an organisation that has its own means of staff-development. Organisations that are considered to have their own means for staff development are for example: Multinational corporations (e.g. Shell, Unilever, Microsoft), large national and/or a large commercial organisations, bilateral donor organisations (e.g. USAID, DFID, Danida, Sida, Dutch ministry of Foreign affairs, FinAid, AusAid, ADC, SwissAid), multilateral donor organisations, (e.g. a UN organisation, the World Bank, the IMF, Asian Development Bank, African Development Bank, IADB), international NGO’s (e.g. Oxfam, Plan, Care);

  • Have an official and valid passport;

  • Must not receive more than one fellowship for courses that take place at the same time;

  • Must have a government statement that meets the requirements of the country in which the employer is established (if applicable).

University of Leiden offers scholarships for professionals from the 50 Netherlands Fellowship Programmes countries to participate in an NFP approved short course at Leiden University.

 

Scholarship amount


An NFP fellowship is intended to supplement the salary that the fellow should continue to receive during the study period. The allowance is a contribution towards the costs of living, tuition fees, visas, travel, insurance and thesis research. If applicable, the fellowship holder is expected to cover the difference between the actual costs and the amount of the personal NFP allowances.

 

Scholarship period

 

The scholarship period is a minimum of 12 days and a maximum of 365 days. There are three application rounds each year:

1. The application round of September/October 2015 is for courses starting between 24 February and 27 July 2016. More information about the application procedure can be found below. 

2. The application round of February/March 2016 is for courses starting between 28 July 2016 and 23 November 2016 (please note that these dates might be subject to change and that more information about this application round will be published in due course). 

3. The application round of June/July 2016 is for short courses starting between 24 November and 23 February 2017 (please note that these dates might be subject to change and that more information about this application round will be published in due course). 

 

Application procedure for admission to Leiden University

 

Short courses 

There is one short course of Leiden University for the next application deadline that is eligible for an NFP scholarship for Short Courses:

Fundamentals of International Tax Law.

There is one short course of Leiden University for the next application deadline that is eligible for an NFP scholarship for Short Courses: Fundamentals of International Tax Law.

Statement employer 


Ask your employer to write you a statement for the NFP Short Course scholarship using this format

Please make sure that the statement meets all the prescribed criteria, is submitted on the organisation’s official letterhead paper, is signed by your superior and is provided with the official stamp of the organisation. 

Please note that incomplete or incorrect statements inevitably lead to a rejection of the fellowship application.

(If applicable) Statement Government Authority 

Some NFP countries require a Government statement. Please use this format to make sure the statement meets all the prescribed criteria. If there is uncertainty about the need for a government statement, please contact the Embassy of the Netherlands in your home country for more information.

4 Prepare your application via Atlas 

In Atlas you will have to answer three questions regarding your motivation (see below). We strongly recommend that you prepare your answers in word, so you only have to copy-paste them and thereby avoid typing in Atlas.

 

1. What is the issue or problem you want to address in your country?

Please give a brief outline [in min 50 and max 1000 characters] of the issue or problem hindering the development of your country which you would like to contribute to solving, using the knowledge and expertise gained by attending the study programme or course.


2. How will this course enable you to address this issue?

Please explain [in min 50 and max 1000 characters] what knowledge and expertise you expect to gain from the course or study programme and how this specific knowledge and expertise can contribute to solving the issue or problem.


3. How will you address this issue with your position within your organisation?

Please describe [in min 50 and max 1000 characters] the position you hold in your organisation and explain why and how this position will enable you to address the issue or problem with the knowledge gained from the course or study programme. You do not need to include a detailed list of activities here, as a specific plan of activities forms part of the “employer’s statement” that has to be uploaded separately.

Application for the NFP Short Course scholarship via Atlas  

Apply for the NFP Short Course scholarship via Atlas, the online application tool for NFP scholarships. The link to Atlas will be available between 2 February and 15 March 2016. 

IMPORTANT:
 Please note that you need to upload: 

1) A copy of your passport (or another form of identification). 
2) An employer's statement 
3) The letter of you admission from International Tax Center Leiden 
4) (only if applicable) the statement government authority 

Please note that your application will not be considered if one of these documents is missing. Each uploaded document should be prepared in PDF format and not exceed 2MB. 

Please note that the application period for courses starting between 28 July 2016 and 23 November 2016 is closed.

 

6 The Dutch embassy assesses the application 

The application will be sent tot the Dutch Embassy of the home country of the applicant. The Embassy checks the eligibility of the application and assesses the application. This assessment determines the score of the individual application and will result in a ranking of all the applications.

7 Selection by Nuffic 
   
The applications that are ranked the highest will be selected for the NFP scholarship. Please note that the selection also takes into account the policy points of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (35% of the total NFP budget will be spent on on grants and study programmes in food security and private sector development, 50% of the budget is for applications from Sub Sahara Africa and 50% of fellowships has to be awarded to female applicants).

The Scholarships Department will contact you regarding the outcome of the granting process.
