The VictoriaUniversity of Wellington is offering its Curtis-Gordon Research Scholarships in Chemistry for a number of students that wish to study at a graduate or undergraduate level chemistry in New Zealand. These scholarships include up to NZD $6.000 for PhD and MSc recipients, and NZD $3.000 for BSc (Hons) and MSc recipients. The application deadline is due November 30, 2016.
History or background of award
The Curtis-Gordon Research Scholarships in Chemistry were established by Gerry Gordon, a student who worked with Professor Neil Curtis at Victoria University of Wellington from 1961-64, and who became prominent in concrete research in the United States. The Scholarships were established through the Victoria University Foundation.
Purpose of award
To encourage chemistry students to undertake research degrees.
Selection criteria
Students planning to enrol in Chemistry in the BSc(Hons), MSc, or PhD degrees in the School of Chemical and Physical Sciences in Victoria University of Wellington.
When selecting the Scholarship holders, the ability of the candidates to complete the practical requirements of the degree will be of primary concern. The personal circumstances of the candidates may also be considered. Preference may be given to candidates who have completed all, or a substantial portion of, their undergraduate degree in Chemistry in the School of Chemical and Physical Sciences of Victoria University of Wellington.
How do students apply?
Applicants are required to submit to the Head of the School of Chemical and Physical Sciences:
(a) a curriculum vitae with details of the applicant's academic record
(b) a statement on the area of chemistry in which they wish to pursue research
(c) a statement of personal circumstances may also be included
Additional information
The value of the award in any year is to be decided by the Victoria Foundation after consideration of the income from the fund. For PhD and MSc (Part II) recipients the Scholarship may be up to $6000 per annum, and for BSc (Hons) and MSc (Part 1) recipients the award may be up to $3000 per annum.
